After a long silence, we’re back. And we’re electric. Inspired by the mythic XF-17, we didn’t ask anyone if we could revive the legend. We did it with the same drive as before. It’s the past recharged with the soul of tomorrow. And we’re ready to ride past it.

After a long silence, we’re back. And we’re electric. Inspired by the mythic XF-17, we didn’t ask anyone if we could revive the legend. We did it with the same drive as before. It’s the past recharged with the soul of tomorrow. And we’re ready to ride past it.
The new FAMEL E-XF begins production
The FAMEL E-XF goes into production with two models: E-XF Café Racer and E-XF Classic. Both are 100% electric and built for riders who live for the ride. It is a legend reborn, rebuilt, and ready to ride past tomorrow.
The new E-XF is ready to go
The E-XF is officially unveiled. The new electric motorcycle embodies the spirit of the XF-17 in its design, offering clean performance and cutting-edge technology. Past meets progress, and the next ride begins.
Proof of concept: XF-17 electrified
Memory becomes matter, and the first concept of an electric XF-17 takes shape. The silhouette is familiar, the engine is new, and the effect is undeniable. The E-XF is born, ready to burn rubber without burning fuel.
Phase I – Blast from the past. Conceptualisation of the XF-17 with electric motorisation
Why reinvent a legend? FAMEL’s heritage is strong enough to bring the XF-17 back into the horizon line—a new electric motor, with an efficient electric heart and the same fearless attitude.
Brand revitalisation project and prototype development
The throttle twists again. FAMEL’s rebirth begins. It's reclaiming its spirit and is ready to tear up the tarmac once again. The challenge of turning memory into action ignites. With Portuguese DNA, of course.
Old company files for bankruptcy
Unable to withstand market shifts and foreign dominance, FAMEL ceased operations. For decades, it had been part of daily life in Portugal, and though the engines stopped, the name lived on in garages and memories.
FAMEL Electron: way ahead of its time
The Electron was one of the first electric scooters in the world, but the market was not yet ready for this pioneering vision. Economic challenges and foreign competition inevitably held it back, marking the brand’s last roar before years of silence.
The XF-17 is released. It becomes the best-selling motorcycle in Portugal
The iconic XF-17 rolls out of the garage for the first time. It comes with a sporty attitude and a will to break the limits. An entire generation felt it. It left a mark and became Portugal’s best-selling motorcycle, staying on the road well into the 1990s.
Partnership with Zündapp as engine supplier
German engineering meets Portuguese ingenuity to forge bold, fast, memorable machines. The collaboration with Zündapp will define the strength and performance of FAMEL motorcycles for decades to come.
FAMEL was created as a metal rim factory, starting production in 1950
Fábrica de Produtos Metálicos Lda. – FAMEL – was born in 1949, in Águeda, Portugal. It begins by producing metal rims, but it quickly feels the pull of the open road. This is where the brand was born. One that, 75 years later, still roars.
The FAMEL electric motorcycle wasn’t made to blend in. It was built to provoke. The E-XF looks like a classic with its eyes set on the future. It needs no fuel, no excuses, just the will to prove that tomorrow begins today.
100% electric, with a 5.5 kW motor, top speed of 100 km/h, and a 4/5 hour charge time, the E-XF is ready to take on the city with confidence, zero emissions, and enough nerve to show that sustainable performance can still smell like burnt rubber.
